In stormy seas

Storms, they can be scary things. Especially when they come out of the blue like the story describes in Ch 6 of It's no Secret”. They are loud and bright as lightning pierce the night taking away the darkness for a briefest of moments. But if that's all it was it might not be as scary. But along with the lightning comes loud claps of thunder that often make one jump out of their skin. I know it does me.

See I'm not fond of them myself and when one comes my way whether the weather type or personal type I can almost always be found in a corner or under the covers, I learned that from my mom who is also not comfortable with them If my mom had seen storms different then I might have also. Who knows. Being alone multiplies the fear I have during these storms.

Yet Jesus says in Deuteronomy 31:6:
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” Which means he will not turn away from us. .

In Matt 8:23-27 Jesus is in a boat with his disciples when the storms hit and they were afraid but Jesus was asleep when he awoke and saw their fear, he said “ you of little faith, why are you afraid”? Then he got up and calmed the storm right in front of them. Right in front of them.

If they who were right in front of Jesus and saw this how hard then is it for us sometimes to forget how wonderful Jesus is. So as I think of it I'm not really alone.

If Jesus did that for them why would he not do it for me? He will do it for me. I could say to myself, Debi you of little faith why are you afraid? Be strong and courageous Do not be afraid or terrified for the Lord your God goes with you he will never leave or forsake you.”

And that will get me through any storm.

  1. That is the most comforting thought. No matter where life brings us, sunny day or stormy night, God will never leave us, or be surprised. We can rest in that knowledge.
